Sure, I'm more of an indoor sorta guy but I never was a third wheel on the adventure. We went all over the place for over 5 hours to find 3 types of snakes, multiple reptiles, and numerous birds. Joel has amazing English skills and the guy should be running a nature center with his level of knowledge. Taking the birding tour of Roatan with Joel was the highlight of my trip to the Island. It's much more than just bird watching. Joel shares his extensive knowledge of the natural world here, including the flora and fauna that inhabit Roatan...as well as the history and culture of his home environment. We identified about 40 different species of birds as we traveled from area to area and while I have seen many of these in my area of Florida, it was wonderful to see them in the unique habitat of the Island. I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with Joel and learned so much from him. I recommend that anyone who visits Roatan...even if you're not a birder...take one of Joel's tours. What a great tour with Joel. Loving here on Roatan one can become quite jaded about yours but this truly was a completely different kind of tour. Booked as a birding tour what I didn’t expect was the historical narrative, the lessons on the flora including the symbiotic relationships with the plants and insects, the amphibian and lizard facts and the natural medicine lessons. So many great places to see the different birds…all right here. We got to see over 40 different species of birds and learn so much more about their habitats, migrations and “lifestyle”. He drove me around the island for four hours and showed me a number of different sites high and low. Highlight was a Potoo mother and brand new chick perched on a branch. He is also super knowledgeable about other creatures and plants. He is a naturalist to the core and a nice person to spend time with as well. He picked me up at the crack of dawn and drove us to a variety of areas in the west end of the island. He was very knowledgeable in identifying the birds, fauna and wildlife.It was a pleasure birding with him and I look forward to meeting up with him again for another birdwatching trip. I meet up again with Joel this year (Feb 2025). We did a 3 day trip to the mainland Honduras. It was amazing. We saw or heard a total of 123 species. Many of them lifers for me. Joel arranged everything and I was not disappointed. Driving from La Ceiba to Yojoa Lake and back I got to see a lot of the area plus met some wonderful people. I wished to see as many birds and habitats as possible and enjoy some local cuisine and Joel delivered.
