He was knowledgeable, friendly, punctual and communicative when I was seeking information, and then in the days leading up. I find that far better than swimming with dolphins or rum tours, is the opportunity to explore a place with a local and not only find birds, but learn about history, geography, agriculture etc and I appreciated Joel's willingness to share what he knew. We had an amazing time with Joel last night. We asked for a night tour to see some nocturnal animals. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the local wildlife. We specifically wanted to look for reptiles like snakes and lizards and we saw tons. He was on time, communicative and personable. Joel has an amazing passion for the island and seems to know everything about the wildlife there. He put us on all of our target species including an amazing potoo look. Easy to communicate on WhatsApp, picked us up at our hotel, and dropped us off at the airport. Great day with Joel! We visited multiple ecosystems and saw quite some impressive birds and other wildlife. Joel even makes a list of all the birds we saw during the trip. Very nice! He is extremely knowledgeable about the birds, plants and other wildlife on Roatan. He went above and beyond to ensure that we saw various fascinating creatures in their natural habitat. Our day was filled with visiting different ecosystems. He was very personable and was able to explain things to us in layman's terms. We had corresponded back-and-forth on WhatsApp, and he wanted to know what our objective for our day was. Did we want to focus on a certain species or just see as many birds as possible? When our day begin, he restated our objective that we had decided upon. At each point in our day, he would tell us what was coming up and what we would probably see there. If there weren’t any birds to see at the moment, he had vast knowledge of the local plants, insects, reptiles, mammals, and amphibians that he showed us. We saw several vine snakes, a Common Basilisk lizard, smooth-billed Anis, a Northern Potoo, Golden-fronted Woodpeckers, and numerous other birds and animals. We were able to photograph and feed local hummingbirds. He taught us a lot about the local floura. He even jumped out of his car and rescued a vine snake from an intersection! He took very good care of us, stopping multiple times to get us cold water, as it was a very hot day. Joel was knowledgeable, professional, enthusiastic, and very personable. We highly recommend him as an expert birding guide!Load more
