He drove me around the island for four hours and showed me a number of different sites high and low. Highlight was a Potoo mother and brand new chick perched on a branch. I took a bird tour with Joel this morning, and it was hands-down one of the best ways to spend four hours. Joel made the entire experience fascinating, not just with his incredible knowledge of the local wildlife but also with his deep insights into the area. Beyond the birds (which, I have to admit, were pretty cool), we also spotted lizards and land crabs—unexpected highlights that made the tour even more engaging. Joel’s passion and expertise were obvious, but what really made this tour special was how much he brought the place to life beyond just pointing out species. It felt like getting an insider’s perspective from someone who truly loves where they live. If you’re even remotely considering this tour—do it. Whether you’re a bird enthusiast or, like me, you’ll walk away with a new appreciation for the wildlife, the landscape, and the stories that make this place special. Knows all the birds, and where to find them, often way off the beaten track (and on roads Hertz definitely forbids), uses a laser pointer to point near the bird. A storm in Roatan canceled my trip but Joel was clear and informative and I was really looking forward to the birding. I paid a deposit for the trip, which was promptly refunded when our flights were canceled. Communication was clear and the process of booking was very smooth. I finally went birdwatching with Joel in February and he knew right where to go. He was full of information about Roatan and not just birds, which my husband really appreciated.
